A modernist pavilion of glass and steel set into a wooded Connecticut hillside, listed for the first time in two decades.
Conceived as a single transparent volume floating above the tree line, this glass-and-steel pavilion frames the surrounding woodland on all four sides. The living spaces are organised around a central service core, leaving the perimeter entirely open to view.
Floor-to-ceiling glazing and a cantilevered deck extend the sense of living within the canopy. In autumn the house becomes a lantern set among the colour.
Living in the landscape
The kitchen and dining area share one continuous plane of terrazzo that runs out onto the terrace. Two bedrooms sit behind sliding walnut screens that can be opened to keep the transparency, or closed for privacy.
