Set behind a long gated drive in the hills above Agoura, the Carroll Dean House is a rare surviving Cliff May estate that has been meticulously brought forward without losing the low, horizontal calm that made his ranch houses famous.
The great room opens along its entire southern face to a covered loggia and pool terrace, the glass sliding fully into the walls so the boundary between inside and garden effectively disappears. Original clerestory windows wash the exposed-beam ceilings in afternoon light.
A considered restoration
New owners commissioned a ground-up systems rebuild — structure, electrical, climate — while preserving the brickwork, the board-formed fireplace, and the courtyard planting that anchors the plan. The kitchen was reworked in oak and honed stone to read as original.
The primary suite occupies its own wing, with a private garden, a dressing room, and a spa bath finished in the same palette. Three further bedrooms open to the motor court and citrus grove.
